FAQs
What is a Public Adjuster?
A Public Adjuster is a professional claims adjuster licensed by the state insurance commissioner who represents the interest of the property owner in the result of a property damage claim to a home or business. They are, in fact, the utmost authority on loss adjusting and can assist you throughout the claims process. We are employed directly by YOU, the policyholder, not by you or any insurance company. We exist solely to ensure the best possible result for you!
Why should I hire a Public Insurance Adjuster from Tri-State Public Adjusters?
While insurance companies seek maximum profits, the adjusters they employ are frequently overworked and underpaid. Many company adjusters assigned to your claim will not have enough time to determine everything you are entitled to. In addition, the adjuster assigned to your claim is either working directly for your insurance carrier or has been hired to do so; part of their pay and company status is based on saving the insurance company money. Tri-State Public Adjusters will work diligently to prepare and present your claim and is not harnessed by any of those restraints.
What is the difference between an Adjuster, an Independent Adjuster, and a Public Adjuster?
An Adjuster is a representative from your insurance carrier who is sent directly to your claim. An Independent Adjuster is an adjuster who works independently for your carrier (or several carriers) and is hired by your insurance carrier to adjust your claim (this is not better; do not confuse them with us). A Public Adjuster from Tri-State Public Adjusters is an adjuster hired immediately by an insured to represent them in all negotiations to ensure a positive outcome.
Can you wait to hire a Public Adjuster and “Go it alone” so to speak?
Sure, although we do not recommend the “wait and see” approach, I would say we get calls sometimes three times a month from people who decided not to hire us, looking for help. On most occasions, the damage has already been done, and we can no longer help them. You typically only really get one bite of the apple. You may also devalue your claim by answering a series of casual questions in conversation without even knowing it.
If you read your policy, will you know your rights as a Property Owner?
Truth is, even if you read your policy from cover to cover, you will not know how the insurance company interprets and applies the numerous and lengthy clauses and endorsements in your policy. In addition, some laws and statutes apply that you may not be aware of. At Tri-State, we are all well-versed in insurance policies, etc. We are once again licensed by the state and held to a high standard of knowledge.
How long will it take to settle your claim?
Small claims may take only days, medium claims may take weeks, and large claims may take several months, depending on the complexity of the claim and the willingness of our opponent. On average, between 60 and 120 days.
